At first, I thought this song was a wall of noise, but then after several listens I realized…I WAS HEADBANGING TO THIS TRACK! What sounds like one of Amputated Genital’s better tracks at first (which means it isn’t good) actually turns into a melodic piece of Dir en grey music after a few seconds. The diversity of the track and the creepy sighs at the beginning of the first chorus I would call it make the reader breathe after the onslaught that was Red Soil and then they smack you again with that bridge which is actually clear to me. I think it’s because Shinya’s drums are nowhere near as loud as that. other. band. but the guitars hit a lot of different notes and play off of each other. Having guitars that ram you like a wrecking ball is cool only in certain parts of a song. They still need to go off and do their own thing but still work together and play with your ears. Doukoku to Sarinu does that but still keeps enough energy to tear the paint off your walls. If you’re a fan of harder music, I invite you to try some of this, even though I know that it’s in Japanese. Rock is universal; headbang in every language and consider yourself enlightened.
Does Kyo scream? Um, YEAH. This is Dir en grey, one of Japan’s biggest rock bands. They scream their heads off like no other. Am I partial to Dir en grey over Genitals? Yes, I am, but not without good reason. Even with their guitars downtuned and mashing to what sounds like unintelligible noise, they still have musical melodies that are clear after just a couple of listens. Their music is not something that you can get into easily; it usually takes a couple of tries. I actually sat through Chessman Red Monday about 9 or 10 times to try to get it to grow on me but it just wasn’t happening. Do you hear all the ups and downs in Kyo’s voice? That’s SINGING. He doesn’t growl like a maniac through out the whole song and even at the chorus you can identify the singing. Hell, you can identify the chorus even if you don’t speak Japanese. The sounds are similar and they don’t sound like a motor.
Although Kyo can sound like a motor if he wanted to…
