Sadie (サディ)

Sadie is one of the most successful newcomers in the indies world. Their heavy and aggressive yet melodic sound has given them a lot of fans and great record sales. Not only are most of their releases sold out, almost every concert they have sells out as well. The band started in early 2005 and have so far gained popularity not just in Japan, but in the whole world.

Sadie was created in February 2005 by Mao, Tsurugi, Aki, Mizuki and Sora, and comes from the English word “sad”, according to vocalist, Mao. They started their activities on March 18, 2005 at BIG CAT in Osaka where they played as the opening act for Fatima, D, shulla and others.

On July 27th 2005 Sadie released their first maxi single, “Kokui no Shita no Yokubou to, Kunou no Hate ni Mita Hyakkei no Yuritachi”, limited to 2000 copies that sold out rapidly.

A few months later on December third, Sadie had their first oneman called 「dekiai ~ As a sad matter of fact ~ 」. At this concert they introduced their new single Dekiai, which came out only a few days later.

Everything seemed to be going well for this young band until their drummer Sora left them in January 2006 due to “artistic differences”. The group decided to stay together. After Sora left the group in January, Sadie were featured on an Omnibus compilation CD called “さわやか3組” (sawayaka sankumi) with the song “meisai”. This CD was limited to 777 copies and came with only 3 tracks, one by Sadie, one by Billy and one by The Pumpkin Head. In March, Sora was replaced by a new drummer named Kei. He was given a warm welcome by the fans and after joining the group, Sadie released their first mini-album, The Trend Killer, which was limited to only 4444 copies. Even though Sadie had always done their own thing and tried to stand out from other bands, they were often compared to Dir en grey after the release of this mini-album.

They continued releasing material and touring and they quickly got their own faithful fan base. At the end of 2006, they released their second mini-album THE SUICIDE MACHINE and also started a tour by the same name, which kept them occupied until the end of the year.

2007 started with a lot of concerts for this promising band and because of massive sales, a third press of their first mini-album The Trend Killer was released in February. Acouple months later on April 18th, Sadie released their first DVD; it was limited to 3333 copies and titled THE SUICIDAL APPLICANTS. After their tour, they released a second DVD titled Distract against the terrors.

During the summer of 2007, Sadie opened a fanclub which they named UNDEAD. In June 2008, Sadie’s first studio album was released, “Undead 13+2″. It contained re-recordings of old, unobtainable Sadie songs. A DVD with music videos came with the limited edition. Two singles, “Crimson Tear” and “Grieving the Dead Soul”, were released shortly afterwards. Struggle against Betrayal was a live released single released in October followed by Ice Romancer, released in December.
